Literacy is the base of all learning, and parental literacy is one of the single most important indicators of a child's success, which is why the Dragon Family Literacy Program is proud to be a part of the Bob Hope community.
The Dragon Family Literacy Program at Bob Hope offers parents GED, ESL, and College-Prep classes along with the opportunity to work side-by-side with their children while in class. As parents improve their literacy skills they also learn how to support their children’s language and literacy skills.
There are four components to the program and at Bob Hope the DFLP staff, which includes adult instructors, works hard along side elementary teachers and other staff members as a team to fully integrate these components into a successful program. The components are:
Adult Education: Parents receive assistance to obtain their GED, prepare for college, and learn English in ESL classes. The classes are centered around what their child is learning in their classes and is driven by the parents’ goals.
Children’s Education: Incorporates what the children are learning in their everyday classrooms. At Bob Hope the children are also tutored on reading regardless of reading levels.
Parent Time: Provides parents with the strategies that support their children’s academic attainment, and also offers parents needed encouragement and support.
PACT Time: Parent And Child Together Time connects parents directly to their child’s classroom and teacher. Parents go into their child’s classroom and participate in their class for 45 minutes a day. This gives parents the tools and techniques to support their children’s learning and development at home.
Please come by and visit us Monday thru Thursday in room 309 and join our award winning program. We hope to see you soon!
